We propose to pilot test the new Sakai collaboration and course management software to better manage an ongoing collaborative project that incorporates multiple courses across schools at the University. The project, known as ecoMOD, is a collaboration between architecture and engineering to design and build affordable, ecological modular houses. The project is imbedded in the undergraduate curriculum of the University, and the coursework has already been recognized by professional organizations and major media outlets for its innovative pedagogy. The collaboration has been extremely productive, but the process would be significantly enhanced with the implementation of a computer-based course management tool. The project provides adequate scope to make innovative and effective use of Sakai for teaching and to demonstrate the potential for spreading these advances to other faculty members.
